Barbara E. Smith, Ed.D. will long be remembered for
her untiring efforts to produce high quality educational resources, particularly for underserved populations.
Her content areas of specialty included:

  • health education and promotion
  • alcoholism and substance abuse
  • school-to-work
  • use of technology in education
  • general adult literacy
  • literacy programming for the homeless
  • incarcerated youth
  • public assistance recipients
  • HIV education and prevention
  • career mobility.

Within each of these areas, Dr. Smith developed curricula and instructional planning materials, planned and developed marketing and public awareness campaigns, developed training manuals, conducted training workshops, and managed intra- and inter-agency projects. Her life’s work provided guidance to many and helped improve the lives of countless learners.

Dr. Smith passed away in December 2003, following a long and very difficult battle with cancer.  We greatly miss her insight, her guidance and direction, and her wonderful laughter.
